Dwight Jones

A football coach with over 40 years of experience, Dwight Jones joined the Viking family in 2019. The year 2022 marked his 150th career win and first-ever football state championship as a Pacelli's head football coach.

His first head coaching position was at Russell County High School in Seale, Alabama. Coach Jones and staff led Russell County to the school’s first-ever 6-A state playoffs and after five years at Russell County, he moved on to take over as head football coach and athletic director at Hardaway High School in Columbus, Georgia. Before Coach Jones arrived, Hardaway had eight consecutive losing seasons. Coach Jones led Hardaway to four consecutive winning seasons, two state playoff seasons and was also named Coach of the Year for the Chattahoochee Valley area. After six seasons, Coach Jones took over as head football coach at Auburn High School in Auburn, Alabama. He took the Tigers to the 6-A state semi-final game and was defeated by Daphne High School. Daphne went on to win the 6-A State Championship that season. Coach Jones was named Coach of the Year by the Opelika-Auburn News. After one year at Auburn High, Coach Jones returned to Muscogee County to begin a new football program in Columbus, Georgia for the Northside High School Patriots. In only their 2nd year of varsity competition, Coach Jones and staff led the Patriots to the 2nd round of the state playoffs. They were defeated by Peach County who went on to win the 3-A State Championship that season. The Ledger-Enquirer named Coach Jones All Bi-City Coach of the Year. Coach Jones also spent two years as head football coach at McIntosh High School in Peachtree City, Georgia. He spent six years as head football coach at Jones County High School in Gray, Georgia. While at Jones County, the Greyhounds made the state playoffs and only had one losing season in his six year tenure. Coach Jones returned to the Valley area to become head football coach at Harris County High School. The Tigers made it to the 2nd round of the state playoffs under Coach Jones and his staff. Coach Jones made the move to St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School after spending three years back at Russell County High School.

Coach Jones is married to Angela Thompson Jones and they have three boys: 19 year-old twins, Addison and Dalton, who attend Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Georgia; and 16 year-old Peyton, who attends Harris County High School. Coach Jones graduated from Auburn University and teaches Physical Education at Pacelli.

Over the past 40 years, Coach Jones has been very fortunate to have worked with great coaches and great players. He says he is thankful for the opportunity God has given him here at St. Anne-Pacelli High School.
