Pacelli High School's wrestling team made history at the 17th Annual Chattahoochee River Wrestling Tournament this past weekend, achieving its highest-ever team finish and producing its first individual champion.

Girls Division Shines
On Friday night, the spotlight was on the girls of the Pacelli Wrestling team. In a fiercely competitive field, all three girls displayed exceptional skill, landing spots on the podium. Sophia Chervenak secured a commendable 3rd place in the combined 130-135 weight class, engaging in a close match against a two-time state champion from Temple High School. Grace Rogers showcased resilience, clinching third with a come-from-behind victory in the 3rd period, while Edith Burgers delivered her best performance of the year, securing a 4th place finish.

JV Triumphs
The junior varsity wrestlers had a stellar tournament, with every member earning a podium position. Michael Ducote's victory in the 150lb weight class stood out, alongside impressive 2nd place finishes by Devon Brach, Henry Blickhahn, and Uriah Mazcyk. Jose Ayerdi claimed 3rd at 138lbs, and Skyler Sanchez rounded off the achievements with a solid 4th place.

Varsity's Historic Achievements
The varsity division left an indelible mark with 9 wrestlers reaching the podium, including 5 making it to the finals. Nicholas Nugent etched his name in Pacelli's history as the first-ever CRWA Champion, dominating the 126lb weight class. Edwin Montas, Holden Sanders, Parker Mertens, and Justin Sanchez secured 2nd place finishes, contributing to the team's outstanding overall performance. Dillon Brannon's pinning prowess earned him a well-deserved 3rd place at 157lbs, while Jason Nelson impressed with a 4th place in his debut tournament. Jake Carpenter fought hard for a formidable 5th place, and Sean Brannon showcased resilience to secure 6th.

Hungry for More
Despite a stellar weekend, the Pacelli wrestlers remain unsatisfied, demonstrating a hunger for more success. Their determination and commitment to excellence will be put to the test as they return to the mat on Tuesday at Columbus High, ready to take on Troup County and Upson Lee.

Pacelli Wrestling continues to elevate its game, leaving an indomitable mark on the wrestling scene. The journey for excellence is far from over, and fans eagerly anticipate the team's next triumph on the mat.*
